AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR T .E LEVY AND COLL OTION OF TAXES
FOR TrE YEAR 1941 FOR THE' CITY OF OKEECHOBEE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE I-AYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City of Okeec <obee, Florida, hereby
levies s tax of 68 mills on each dollar valuation of reel and
personal property within the corporate limits of the City of
Okeechobee, Florida, for the y epr 1941; such taxes shall be
assessed. and collected. in the manner provided by law, PROVIDED
HOWEVER, that no taxes shell be assessed against homesteads
having a valuation of ;5,000.00 and less; homesteads having a
valuation of more than t5, 000.00 shall be assessed. on such
amounts in excess of 1°5,000.00, except as provided in Section
2 of this ordinance.
Section
2.
The t 27 mills of such tax shall be used
for Genera -1 City purposes and shall be assessed for the General
Fund of -said City. That ten (10) mills of such tax shall be
assessed for the payment and satisfaction of that certain judg-
ment obtained by Yeoman s s Mutual Life Insurance Company, against
the City -of Okeechobee, Florida; said judgment l-avirr issued out
of the U. S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida,
a copy of which is recorded in the office of the Clerk of Circuit
Court of Okeechobee County, Florida. That five (5) mills of such
tax shall be used for the payment and satisfaction of the balance
due on that certain judgment obtained by Pauly Jail Building
Company, a corporation, and recorded in the office of the Clerk
of Circuit Court of Okeechobee County, Florida. That fifteen (15)
mills of such tax shall be uses_ for the payment of that certain
judgment obtained by E. T. McGaulley against said City of Okee-
chobee, in the U. S. District Court of the Southern District of
Florida and recorded in the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court
of Okeechobee County, Florida.
That ten (10) mills of such tax
shall be assessed for the purpose of complying-~ with that certain
peremptory writ of mandamus in that certain cause pending in
the Circuit Court of Okeechobee County, Florida, wherein STATE
OF FLORIDA ex rel CHA IPION SPARK PLUG COMPANY, a corporation
was relator and the City of Okeechobee was respondent, which
said peremptory writ commanded the said City to levy a writ
sufficient to nay the sum of :4'2,967.27, if said taxes were
collected in full on the tax roll for the year 1941. That one
(1) mill of such tax shall be assessed for the purpose of satis-
fying that certain judgment obtained by one Edward Parradee
against said City of Okeechobee, Florida. That all of said
levies herein set forth shall be assessed against all homesteads,
regardless of value, within the City of Okeechobee, Florida,
except the following:
27 Mills assessed for General Fund.
10 Mills assessed for Judgment of
Yeornan ' s Mutual Life Insurance Company.
1 Mill assessed for Judgment of Edward
Parradee.
Section 3. It shall be the duty of the Tax Collector
of said City and t .e City Clerk of said City, to divide the
proceeds received from said t.sx as aforesaid, into the funds
set out in Section 2 of this ordinance and keep full end correct
account of the same as they ,Lay be directed by the City Council.
Section 1 ?-. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in
conflict herewith be, and the same are hereby repealed.
Section 5. This ordinance shill be in full force and
effect upon its passage by the City Council and ao- roval
Mayor.
