0237 (Occupational License Exemptions)ORDINANCE NO. ca 3'7 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR EXEMPTION FROM PAYMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL LICENSE TAX TO CERTAIN PERSONS NAMED IN SAID ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: Section 1. Any bona fide permanent resident elector of the City of Okeechobee who served as an officer or enlisted man in the United States army, navy or marine corps during the World War between April 6, 1917 and November 11, 1918, or in the Spanish American War between April 21, 1896 •-r 1✓v a", aZ and July 4, 1902, and who was honorably discharged from the service of the United States, and who at the time of application for license as hereinafter mentioned shall be disabled from performing manual labor, shall, upon sufficient identification and proof of being a permanent resident elector in the State and production of an honorable discharge from the service of the United States during World War I, the Spanish - American War, or World War II, be granted a license to engage in any business or occupation in the City of Okee- chobee, Florida, which may be carried on mainly through the personal efforts of the licensee as a means of livelihood, and shall be entitled to an exemption to the extent of 50.Ou on any license to engage in any business or occupation in the City of Okeechobee, Florida. The exemption heretofore refereed to shall extend to and include the right of the licensee to operate an automobile for hire of not exceeding five passenger capacity, including the driver, when it shall be made to appear that such automobile is bona fide owned, or con- tracted to be purchased by the licensee, and is being o operated by him as a means of livelihood, and the proper license tag for the operation of such motor vehicle for private use has been applied for and attached to said motor vehicle and the proper fees therefor paid by the licensee. Section 2. The City Tax Collector of the City of Okeechobee shall issue to such person or persons as may be entitled hereunder a license in pursuance to the fore- going provisions and subject to conditions thereof, and such license when issued shall be marked across the face thereof "World War-One-Veteran's License ", or 'World War -- Two- Veteran's License ", or "Spanish- American Veteran's License" -- "Not transferable ", as the case may be, provided that before issdng the same,proof shall be duly made in each case that the applicant is entitled under the conditions of this ordinance to receive the exemption herein provided for, which proof may be made by exhibiting a certificate of government rated disability to an extent of twenty -five per cent, or an affidavit or testimony of a reputable physician who personally knows the applicant and who makes oath that the applicant is disabled from performing manual labor as a means of livelihood. Section 3. All licenses issued under this Ordinance shall be in the same general form, and shall expire at the same time as other municipal licenses are fixed by law to expire. Section 4. All lixenses obtained under the provisions of this Ordinance by the commission of fraud upon any issuing authority of the City of Okeechobee shall be deemed null and Void, and the person who has fraudulently obtained any such license and has thereafter engaged in any business or occupation requiring a license under color thereof, shall be subject to prosecution as for engaging in e businessor occupation without having the required . license under the laws of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, and such license shall not be issued in any city other than a city wherein such veteran is a bona fide resident elector, unless: a.bh veteran applying therefor shall produce to the Tax Collector of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, a Certificate of the Tax Collector of his home County to the effect that no exemption from license has been granted to such veteran in his home county under the authority of this section.
