AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING SLAUGHTER HOUSES, MEAT PACK-
ING, MEAT PROCESSING, FAT RENDERING, SOAP, TALLOW,
GREASE OR LARD MANUFACTURING OR REFINING WITHIN THE
CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA,
AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF ITS TERMS.
Whereas, slaughter houses, meat packing, meat processing, fat
rendering, soap, tallow, grease or lard manufacturing or refining
establishments and other similar business which emit noxious
vapors or noisome smells and stenches or other offensive odors
are deemed to be harmful or offensive to the inhabitants of the
City of Okeechobee and more particularly the inhabitants living
in the immediate area of such establishments, and
Whereas, such businesses materially and injuriously affect
the comfort, enjoyment and property rights of those inhabitants
in their vicinity.
NOW, THEREFORE, In the interest of the health, safety,
welfare and comfort of inhabitants of the City of Okeechobee,
Florida, the following Ordinance is hereby enacted.
Be It Ordained By the City Council of the City of Okeechobee,
Florida:
Section 1: From and after the passage of this Ordinance, it
shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to operate
or conduct a slaughter house, meat packing, meat processing, fat
rendering, soap, tallow, grease or lard manufacturing or refining
business or establishment within the Corporate limits of the City
of Okeechobee, Florida.
Section 2: Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Ordinance shall upon conviction be
imprisoned for a term not to exceed sixty (60) days or be subject
to fine not to exceed the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00).
Each day any violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall
continue shall be construed as a separate offense.
PASSED AND ADOPTED in Special Session this 22nd day of
February, 1963.
