0331 (Chief of Police)ORDINANCE NO. ?Ti AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF A CHIEF OF POLICE AND PROVIDING THAT WHEN SAID CHIEF OF POLICE IS REMOVED FROM OFFICE BY THE MAYOR, HE CAN ONLY BE REIN- STATED AFTER TRIAL BY THE COUNCIL AND UP- ON THE UNANIMOUS VOTE OF SAID CITY COUNCIL. Be it ordained by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida: SECTION 1. The Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee shall be elected by the qualified electors of the City of Okeechobee. SECTION 2. The Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee shall be elected at the same time that other City Officials are elected, beginning December, 1968. SECTION 3. The term of office of the Chief of Police shall be for a period of four (4) years, beginning on the first (.1st) Monday of January following said election. SECTION 4. The Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee shall be subject to removal from office by the Mayor of the City of Okeechobee, in accordance with the Charter of the City of Okeechobee, and shall not be reinstated except after trial by the City Council, when said Council, by unanimous vote authorizes his reinstatement. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 22nd DAY OF OCTOBER, 1968.
