0358 Elected Police Chief)ORDINANCE NO. 3S8 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 091 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA, WHICH PROVIDES THAT THE CHIEF OF POLICE SHALL BE ELECTED; PROVIDING THAT THE PERSON HOLDING SUCH OFFICE ON THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL CONTINUE TO HOLD SUCH OFFICE UNTIL HIS ELECTED TERM SHALL EXPIRE, AND THEREAFTER UNTIL HIS SUCCESSOR IS ELECTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL AND QUALIFIED AS SET FORTH IN SECTION 31 OF THE CHARTER LAWS OF THE CITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 331 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, authorized by Section 7 of the Charter Laws of the City, and which provides for the election of a Chief of Police, is by the adoption of this ordinance specifical repealed and rendered null and void. SECTION 2. The Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee having been duly elected by the qualified electors of the City in December of 1968, shall continue to hold such office until his elective term shall expire, unless such office shall be sooner vacated by his death, removal, resignation or otherwise. SECTION 3. The Chief of Police of the City of Okeechobee in office at midnight on the last day prior to the first Monday in January, 1973, shall continue to hold such office until his successor shall be elected by the City Council and qualified. SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council and its approval by the Mayor. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 6" day of ,T'lnp , 1972.
