0396 (Alcohol Sales)ORDINANCE NO. 396 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION ONE, OF ORDINANCE NO. 280, CODE OF ORDINANCES, WHICH PROHIBITS THE SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA, BETWEEN TWELVE O'CLOCK MIDNIGHT SATURDAY AND SEVEN O'CLOCK A.M. MONDAY, BY CHANGING THE HOURS PROHIBITING THE SALE OF BEER AND WINE BEVERAGES TO BETWEEN TWELVE O'CLOCK MIDNIGHT SATURDAY AND ONE O'CLOCK P.M. ON SUNDAY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 280, Code of Ordinances which which prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages within the limits of the City of Okeechobee, Florida between twelve o'clock midnight Saturday and seven o'clock a.m. Monday be amended as follows: (A) From and after the date this Ordinance becomes effective, it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, holding a license under the State Beverage Department of Florida, to or cause to be sold or permit the sale of any alcoholic beverage except beer or wine between twelve o'clock midnight Saturday and seven o'clock A.M. Monday. (B) From and after the date this Ordinance becomes effective, it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, holding a license under the State Beverage Department of Florida, to or cause to be sold or permit the sale of beer or wine beverages between twelve o'clock midnight Saturday and one o'clock P.M. Sunday. SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council and its approval by the Mayor. SECTION 3. This Ordinance was proposed, considered, and adopted under the provisions of Section 166.o41 (3) (b) Florida Statutes, and was enacted by no less than a two - thirds vote of the entire City Council. I know that it would be much better for all concerned if the men and women were home with their families on Sunday instead of hanging around a saloon.
