,AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF CITY. OFFICERS, FOR THE
QUALIFICATION AND REGISTRATION OF ELECTORS, AND FOR UTEI R PURPOSE r,.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MIAY0R AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEE•
CH 0BEE, FLORIDA:
SEC. 1. Any person Who is qualified to vote at a sta,•te elects or
has resided in the city six months, and has been registered in the
municipal registration, as prescribed by this ordinance, shall be a
qualified elector unT any municipal election. Provided, that State
and County registration or payment of poll taxes shall not be required.
SEC. 2. The first annual election of officers for the City of Okeechobee,
after the passage of this ordinance shall be held on the first Tuesday
in December, 1915, and an election for City Officers shall be field every
two years thereafter on the same date. At the election held in December,
1915 the following officers shell be elected by the qualified voters of
said City, to -wits One Mayor, one Clerk and Assessor of Taxes, and five
members of the City Council.
SEC. 3. The term of office of the Mayor, Clerk and Assessor and Council-
men shall be for two years, beginning on the first Monday in January
after the day of general election.
SEC. 4. The Chief of Folios shall be elected by the newly elected City
Council immediately after its organisation and he shall hold his office
for the term of two years.
SEC. 5. All officers shall hold their office until their successors are
appointed and a is cted and duly qualified.
SEC, 6. At least thirty days prior to any special or general election,
the Mayor shall issue his proclamation calling said election, naming the
officers to be filled a t such general election, or the question to be
votedet such special election which proclamation may be published in
a newspaper in the City of Okeechobee for at least three consecutive
issues prior to said election, or said proclamation may be posted at
the door of the City hall or Council Chamber for three weeks prior at
said election.
SEC. 7. The City Council shall appoint three inspectors and one clerk
of said election to conduct such election. The City Council shall prepare
and provide all tickets, printed matter and blanks necessary for said
The said Inspectors and Clerk shall count the votes at said ele tio]
eleotion/and make written returns Jr duplicate thereof to the City Council
one of which returns shall be delivered to the City Clerk, and the other
to the President of the Council.
SEC. 8. Before assuming the duties of their respective offices each
officer in the City shall subscribe to an oath to support and defend the
Constitution and laws of the United States, of then State of Florida, and
of the City of Okeechobee and to faithfully perform the duties of his offices.
No officer shall be ai!lwed to enter upon the duties of his office until aft
after he shall have given a good and sufficient bond in the sum required,
by this ordinance, with such sureties as shall be accetable and approved by i
majority of the City Council. The following bonds shall be required:
City Clerk and Assessor, .¶500.00, Chief of Police and Tax Collector :1%00.00.
Sbould any elective officer fail to give an acceptable bond within thirty
days after the date of his election the said office shall be declared
vacant, and the vacancy shall be filled by the City Council, and the
person so appointed shall hold until the next regular City election.
SEC. 9. All bonds given by the City officers shall be made payable to
the City of Okeechobee, Florida, with at least two sureties who shall
justify in the aggregate to the amount of the bond, exclusive of all
exemptions and shall be conditioned for the faithful perforinancel of
duty and the proper% disbursement of and accounting for all money
coming into such officer's hands in such officer's official capacity.
SEC. 10. No person shall be qualified to vote in any City election un-
less such person shall have registered with the City Clerk prior to such
election. The registration books shall be opened ten days prior to any
el cti or?, and closed at the end of the day prior to any such election.

.i;C. 11. It shall be the duty of the City Clerk to furnish the inspectors
of ellection at every election a list of the registered voters of said
°City, who have qualified to vote at such City Election.
SC, 12 Such election shall be conducted as provided by the State
overning elections, exoppt as otherwise provided by this ordinance.
.. 13. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect immediately
upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
