1959-07 (Cancelling Taxes)"RESOLUTION" Motion was made by Councilman Gardner, seconded by Councilman Watford, and unanimously carried to adopt the following resolution: WHEREAS, the municipal boundaries of the City of Okeechobee, Florida were established by Chapter 10960, Special Laws of Florida, 1925; and WHEREAS, said Chapter 10960 excluded the East one half of the East one half of Section 15 and Government Lots 1 and 8 of Section 22, Township 37 South, Range 35 East, from the corporate limits of the City of Okeechobee, Florida; and VvHEREAS, by virtue of Chapter 14257, Special Laws of Florida, 1929, the above lands were included within the municipal boundaries of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, subject to approval of the qualified electors of the City of Okeechobee, Florida; and WHEREAS no election of approval was held subsequent to the enactment of said Chapter 14257, and therefore said lands were never again incorporated within the municipal boundaries of the City of Okeechobee, Florida; and WHEREAS, all of said lands were assessed for taxation by the City of Okeechobee, Florida, as if said Chapter 14257 had been approved by the qualified electors of the City of Okeechobee, Florida; and WHEREAS, many requests have been made, from time to time, to the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, by indi- vidual land owners for the cancellation of city tax liens encumb- ring their real property due to the erroneous assessments above mentioned; Now THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED5 by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, that all taxes and tax certificates, levied, assessed and issued by the City of Okeechobee, Florida, for the year 1925 and subsequent years, against all real property lying and being in. the East one half of the East one half of Section 15 and Government Lots 1 and 8 of Section 221, Township 37 South, Range 35 East, be and they are hereby cancelled and the City Clerk of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, is hereby author- ized and directed to cancel the same of record. BE IT FUR7:E-IER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be recorded in the public records of Okeechobee County, Florida. Passed and adopted in regular session this 4th day of August A. D. 1959.
