1949-01 Considering Prison Camp near CityR E S 0 L U T 1 0 N — — — — — — — — — — WH0RE.AS, the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, iJW 4,Wl Florida, has been advised that due consideration i�ee given to the location of a Convict Camp at or near the City of Okeechobee, Florida, and within the boundary of Okee- chobee County, and WHEREAS, the City Council Is of the opinion that the location of a Convict Camp at or near the City of Okeechobee, Florida, would Drove beneficial to said, City and County and would save the State of Florida considerable money in the transportation of convicts to the various road projects being now served by convict labor located at Indian Town, Florida, for that Okeechobee County furnishes to the Prison Department of the State of Florida, a central location for the erection of a convict camp. The highways in Okeechobee County, Florida, leading in all directions are paved and would furnish conven- ient and economical transportation for the transporting of convict labor to and from all work within a working boundary of said convict camp, and WHEREAS, Okeechobee County has agreed to and will donate to the State of Florida a suitable location for said camp, now THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Okeechobee, Florida, that Honorable Nathan Mayo, Commissioner of Agriculture, be and he is hereby requested to seriously consider the advisability of locating in Okeechobee County, Florida, the convict camp as hereinbefore mentioned. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be furnished to Honorable Nathan Mayo, Commissioner of Agriculture, and also a copy to Honorable Merrill P.
