1933-04 Unemployment reliefThe following resolution was offered by Councilman McCarthy, who moved its adoption, motion seconded, -by Councilman Walker and 'upon being Put to a vote was passed unanimously: RESOLUTION Whereas many of the citizens of Okeechobee axe unable to secure employment other than that afforded by the Emergency Relief Work,, and Whereas the City of Okeechobee is desirous of aiding the Federal Government in its efforts to give employment to the people, of this State, enabling them to provide the necessary food and clothing for their families, and Whereas the laws of Florida authorize and empower the Cittes of this State to assess and collect taxes for the support of the poor and needy, therefore, Be it resolved by the Mayor and. the City Council of Okeechobee, Florida, that the sum of Two Thousand ($2,000.00) Dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated for un -employment relief in.the City of Okeechobee. Be it further resolved that sufficient millage be levied against the taxable propertyp both real and personal, in the said City of Okeechobee, Florida, necessary for the proper carrying out of the provisions of this resolution.
