RESOLUTION
WHEREAS9 it has been brought to the attention of the City Council of Okeechobee
Florida, that the Receivers of the Florida Western & Northern Railroad Company have
offered to pay State & County taxes to the County of Okeechobee, for the years 1930
and 1931 provided the Board of County Commissioners of said County of Okeechobee
will accept the full amount of said taxes for the year 1930 and the amount due for
1931 less the sum of $1330.26 v&ich the said Receivers claim is illegal or excessive
of the amount actually due, and
1HEREAS2 the total amount of taxes to be paid, as agreed by said Receivers is
$28,,223-80 and unless said County Commissioners agree to accept said sum that the
Receivers will oppose any litigation to force them to pay said taxes and will refuse
to pay same until compelled -to do so by an order of a court of last resort, and
WHEREAS, the County of Okeechobee is in dire need of funds with which to pay
its officers and other citizens to whom it is indebted, and
1HEREASp if said Board of County Commissioners agree to such compromise the
said taxes will be paid within thirty days and if no compromise is reach�ed, the payment
of said taxes will be indefinitely delayed, and
'WHEREAS, this Council believes it will be to the best interest of this County
that the Board accept said compromise,,
Now,, Therefor -a, Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City.of Okeechobee,
Florida, that the Board of County Commisionere be requested to accept said compro-
mise in order that said taxes can be paid at this time.

Mr. T. W. Conely Jr., City Attorney, advised Council that title to land sold
to City by Mrs. Ida E. Chandler is defective, and on motio4of Councilman McOaxthy.,
seconded by Councilman J. H. Walker, Sr. Council authorized President of Council,
and City Clerk to execute necessary papers to obtain clear title.
Councilman Ben Walker moved that City Attorney be instructed to inform the
Board of County Commissioners that unless some provision is made to pay the amount
