instruct the City Clerk to advertise for public hearing, seconded by Councilman
Chapman, vote carried.
DONATIONS
The list of Donations was discussed by the Council in regard to the proposed
Budget.
Councilman Raulerson moved to withdraw the Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00)
allocated for tennis courts in the 78-79 Budget from Revenue Sharing and re-
allocate it in the 79-80 Budget, seconded by Councilman Burk, vote carried.
The total amount for donations was Thirteen Thousand Five Hundred Dollars
($13,500.00). Councilman Burk suggested setting aside the donations to have each
organization justify their expenditures. The Council concurred.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Chief Mobley suggested replacing the next dispatcher opening (when it occurs)
with someone that has secretarial abilities.
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Council discussed the possibility of hiring an Assistant Director of
Public Works. This will enable Director Fortner to implement inventory plan,
equipment check schedule and other various tasks that he has been unable to deal
with due to his heavy work load.
The Council then discussed the hiring of a mechanic with the possible
starting salary of Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00).

79-88 BUDGET WORKSHOP SESSION WEDNESDAY~ SEPTEMBER 19, 1979
The City Council of the City of 0keechobee~ Florida~ convened in a Budget
Session in the Clerk's office at the City Hall, Okeechobee, Florida, at 7:00 P.M.,
-- Wednesday, September 19, 1979.
President Edward W. Douglas presiding.
Councilmen Lytle Raulerson, Jim Knight, Donald Burk and Oakland Chapman were
present.

Others present were: Bonnie S. Thomas, City Clerk; L.C. Fortner, Jr.,
Director of Public Works; David Conlon, City Attorney and Sylvia Christian,
Deputy Clerk.
MEETING WITH COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
The Council instructed President Douglas to send a letter to the County
Commissioners requesting a joint meeting, for the latter part of October.
OKEECHOBEE BEACHWATER ASSOCIATION
Attorney Conlon recommended the Council put a stipulation on the Okeechobee
Beachwater Association agreement as to gallons and time.
The Council instructed Attorney Conlon to listen to the tapes of the last
meeting with Okeechobee Beachwater and draw up a contract between the City and
Okeechobee Beachwater Association.
OKEECHOBEE HIGH SCHOOL MARQUE
Councilman Knight told the Council he would look into erecting a high
school marque on the corner of the first park at Highway 441 and Highway 70.
BUDGET
The Council discussed the overall 1979-80 budget but came to no conclusions
at this time.
