A. A. Scott appeared before the C~uncil in regards to the proposed Building and Electrical
C~de s presented to the Cemncil by the B-ilding Association sometime age. After discussion the Council
granted permissioa to the A~ociation te prepare an examination for the Councils study.

President Gardner asked f~r any objections to the re-zoning of Lots 1, 2, 3 and 4, Block 45, First

man Yeilding moved to rezer~ the above described property from Residential (R-i) te Ceweaercial seconded
by Councilman Watferd and unanim~usl~ Carried.

~, the Central and Southern ~erida PreJec% authorized by the Flood Control
Act of June 30, 19~8, and subsequent a~ts of Oe~grese includes no authorization for
enlargement or m~difioation of the Taylor Creek Channel,
W~, a number of large spoil areas were made available te the Corpe ef
Enginee~ for. construction of ~he Taylor Creek Project and such areas have been avail-
able f~ use by the Corps of Engineers since 1936, and
~, the~e la~ge spoil areas have net been used by the Corps of Engineers for
maaz ~ .and there is no apparent need for their use in the foreseeable future,
W~, the continued existence of 'the perpetual spoil easements serves to with-
held thl entire arewof such easements fr~ development by the fee owners of the lands

W~, some very desirable land which could be developed for recreational and

Supt. Kinsaul re~orted that it would require appreximately 325 feet of 2 ~-~ch pipe for water
line extension on Okeechoble Avenue to property of Reed Plu, rlee Block 248. Councilman Hunt moved te
make water line extension and place order for 500 feet of 2 inch cast iron cement coated pipe seconded --
by Councilm~,~ Yeilding and carried.
The Council requlsted the Attorney to write a letter ef appreciation to the State Roa~ Depart-
meat for the painting of s~ on city street~.
The rocf at city hall discussed. The Ceuncil requested Fire Chief Godwin to get a contractor
to inspect the wood work ulcer the roof and get estimate on repairs.
The Council disCUssed street sign markers. Councilma~ Watford agreed to contact local painter
for price on painting strelt names on concrete post. Councilman ~ei!ding requested to prepare a list
of names of streets on mail thoreughfare.
Councilman Parkel~on reported a request for the removal of signal light at Oscocla Street
and Eighth Street and pla~ same at Chekaleskee St. and Eighth Street. The Council was net in favor
of the removal ef abeve lilht but agreed te investigate the request for a light at the other location.
The Mayor requested the Council to e~pleyee a City Prosecuting Attorney te be used only on
certain cases. The Counci~ agreed to study matter.
The Council discussed the needed repairs to Street Dept. truck an.. estimate cost in the
amount of $635.00 for repairs. No action taken.
A request was re~orted frc~ Mrs. Mc Duffie for a culvert in Block 241. Supt. Williams to
investigate matter.
A sewer line extlnsion to C. L. Box and Tastee Free-. property discussed. Councilman Yeilding
requested te investigate matter for further detellse
President Gardne~ reported a request fre~ the Teen Age Center to have police patrel in area
of Center. Matter referre~ to Councilman Parkerson. Also President Gardner stated that the Teen Age
Center had requested a representative fre~ the city to be at a meeting to be held at Z. K. Williams.
Councilman Yeilding agreed to attend meeting.
Councilman Watford moved to have city hall exterminated seconded by Coo_,cilma~ Hunt and carried.
Pursuant te notiee published in the Okeechobee News the Council sat as a Board of Equalizers.

SECTION 1. That ~he City of Okeechobe~, Florida, hereby levies a tax of 20 ~ on each
dollar valuatiem ~f real amd personal property wi~h!w *_~e corporate limits of the City of
~Okeechobee, Florida, for the year 1961; such taxes shall be assessed and collected in the
mammer provided h~ law,
P~OVIDED HOWEVER, That ne taxes shall be assessed against homesteads, having a valuation
of net more th&u $%,000.00 for the General Fuad of said City.
SECTION 2.. That ~4 mille of such tax be used for General City purposes and shall be
assessed for the General Fumd of said City. That 6 mille of such tax be assessed for
the interest and Ihi~E fund for the payment of interest am~ primcipal of General
Refu~ Beads, Issue of 1942, of said City.
SECTION 3. It shall be the duty of the Tax Collector of said City and the City Clerk
ef said City, to divide the proceeds received from said t~xes aforesaid, into the funds
set out in Sectioa 1 of this Ordinance and keep
they may be dire~d by the City Council.
