The City should be aware of the critical drainage problems on South Parrott Avenue where severe flood conditions exist. The Engineering Office is currently working towards the design of a Master Drainage Plan for the City of Okeechobee. South Parrott Avenue from 11 to 23` Streets is one of the most critical areas. Since the drainage system for Parrott Ave. was designed more than 20 years ago today's it does not work properly and the same avenue became a drainage flow barrier towards the Taylor Creek. Consequently, we have to deal with the drainage flow from the area only towards the South or to the 7th Avenue ditch. The City needs all existing right -of- ways; alleys or others to route drainage flow to the 7th Avenue ditch or to store rain off in attenuation ponds if possible. Also, we have to be aware that the next alternate traffic route for South Parrott Avenue would be SW 2nd Avenue and presently 18 19 and 20 Streets are unopened. Finally, we have learned from DOT that drainage improvements on Parrott Avenue will take at least 4 years before solutions can be implemented.
