Dear Frank:

Mr. Frank Marsocci
Executive Director
Business Council of Okeechobee
Post Office Box 718
Okeechobee, Florida 34974
At the February 19th City Council meeting your letter pertaining to
a joint meeting to discuss water was presented by Mayor Kirk.
After some discussion among Councilmembers, it was agreed that
before any service availability can take place, the city would
need to know from the county where they intend to point development
and in what mix. Next, the city would need to know if the county
is going to begin providing water themselves, and where do they
expect to provide water service. This item has a spell over effect
with the city because of service areas and locations of water
lines.
As for Beach Water, the city would need to see where they expect to
expand their system and what future capacity will they need. As
you are aware, the city is moving forward to increase water
capacity and try to tie the additional capacity with the proposed
power plant. The city does not want to begin to plan for these
items and expend large sums of money only to have the rug pulled
out from under us because the County decided to pursue a different
direction without informing us.
We would ask the Business Council to expedite a firm decision on
the part of the County and Beach Water. If a meeting among the
Business Council and staff of the various groups are in order, then
the city would welcome the meeting.
