AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND APPENDIX A, THE COMPREHENSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE
OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA; AMENDING THE DISTRICT REGULATIONS
TO ALLOW GROUP HOUSING BY A SPECIAL EXCEPTION IN RESIDENTIAL GENERAL
• (RG-1 AND RG-2) DISTRICTS; AMENDING SECTION 22, DEFINITIONS TO PROVIDE
A DEFINITION FOR GROUP HOME FACILITIES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I: The schedule of district regulations of Appendix A, the Comprehensive
zoning Ordinance of the City of Okeechobee, Florida is hereby amended so as to provide
for group housing facilities in residential general districts by special exception as
follows;
RG- RESIDENTIAL, GENERAL DISTRICTS
Special Exceptions:
Permissible by Board of Adjustments by public notice and hearing and subject to
appropriate conditions and safeguards (see section 13.3):
As for RSF, and in addition
1 - Private clubs and lodges
2 - Nurses home or similar housing for institutional employees; convent or
monastery
3 - Funeral homes, but no crematory
4 - Professional and business offices
5 - Residential structure in excess of forty five feet in height
6 - Commercial marina not involving removal of boats from water for purpose
of repair or major motor repair
7 - Child care center
8 - Hospital and nursing homes provided no structure shall be closer than
fifty feet to any boundary line and separate ownership and no off-street
parking shall be located closer than twenty five feet to any property
boundary line and separate ownership.
9 - Medical and dental clinics; other activities and services directly
supporting hospital activities
10 - Licensed group home facilities and foster care facilities in RG-1 and
RG-2
SECTION II: Section 22 of Appendix A is hereby amended to read as follows:
SECTION 22, DEFINITIONS 43-A GROUP HOME FACILITY
GROUP HOUSING IS DEFINED TO BE RESIDENTIAL IN NATURE WITH NO MORE THAN
10 UNRELATED PERSONS PER UNIT, INCLUDING FULL TIME STAFF PERSONS RESIDING
THEREON AND POSSESSING THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF
HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES.

SECTION III: This Ordinance shall take effect upon its adoption.
