0539 Fire Prevention CodeORDINANCE NO. 539 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 7, ARTICLE II, SECTION 7- 11 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA, CONCERNING FIRE PREVENTION; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF THE 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE, 1985 EDITION, AS PROMULGATED BY THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION; PROVIDING THAT THE 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE SHALL TAKE PRECEDENT OVER THE STANDARD FIRE PREVENTION CODE OF THE SOUTHERN BUILDING CODE CONGRESS INTERNATIONAL, INC. IN THE EVENT OF INCONSISTENCIES BETWEEN THE CODES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OKEECHOBEE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I: Chapter 7, Article II, Section 7-11 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Okeechobee is hereby amended as follows: Section 7-11.Codes adopted. There is hereby adopted by the city, for the purpose of prescribing regulations to improve public safety by promoting the control of fire hazards regulating the installation, use and maintenance of equipment, regulating the use of structures, premises and open areas in the city, in the interest of the public health, safety, convenience and welfare, that certain code known as the Standard Fire Prevention Code, 1979 Edition, promulgated by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended, and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein, and, except as provided herein, the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the municipal limits of the city. There is further adopted 12y the City, for the purposes stated in the preceding paragraph, that certain code known as the 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE, 1985 Edition, and subsequent editions, as promulgated j~y the National Fire Protection Association. In the event of an inconsistency between the 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE and the STANDARD FIRE PREVENTION CODE, the 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE shall take precedent and shall be followed. The STANDARD FIRE PREVENTION CODE and the 101 LIFE SAFETY CODE are hereby incorporated 12y reference and made a part of this chapter. SECTION II: This Ordinance shall take effect upon its adoption .
